The mission of the US Airways Education Foundation, Inc. is to support educational initiatives in communities the airline serves by promoting employee engagement and funding college scholarships to dependents of airline employees and community education grants to nonprofit organizations.
The US Airways Education Foundation places a high value on educational programs that respond to social issues, especially those that directly or indirectly strive to improve education or increase skills for its participants. Grants are accepted on an annual basis and are available on-line after May 1 with a deadline of July 1.
The Education Foundation will not consider funding for:
- Organizations located or serving populations outside of the major metropolitan areas of the airline’s hub and focus cities of Boston, Charlotte, Las Vegas, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.
- Individuals, including support for hardship or medical travel, scholarships, camperships, specific students, researchers, honorariums or conference fees.
- Individual schools and their support organizations (including Booster Clubs, PTA/PTO’s, athletic teams, bands, performing arts groups or reunions).
- Third party or pass-through fundraisers such as organizations fundraising on behalf of another nonprofit or auxiliary organizations.
- Political, labor or fraternal organizations, associations or service clubs (i.e. Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis).
- Sports teams or sporting programs
- Scouting troops
- Competitions, beauty pageants or talent contests
- Religious organizations or churches or programs that are purely denominational in purpose.
- Organizations or programs funded 50% or more by government sources
- Organizations whose primary mission is funding medical or scientific research
- Organizations that primarily provide advocacy for issue related topics
- A program or event within the next 90 days
- Start-up organizations defined as nonprofit organizations whose 501 (c )(3) has been instated less than 3 years
- Foundations or organizations which are grant-making entities
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, marital status, age, disability or veteran status
- Endowment
- Capital and building campaigns
- Debt reduction campaign
- Consultant fees
- Software or hardware
- Political campaigns or activities
- Grants for ground or air travel expenses or field trips
- Grants for debt retirement or operational costs
- Grants for general operational budgets
- Purchase of program advertisements
- Purchase of tickets or tables for dinners and/or benefits
- Stipends for personal expenses
You must submit your request during the annual the online application process. The 2008 Education Foundation grant program is closed and the 2009 application will be available after May 1, 2009.
Funding through the US Airways Community Foundation or the US Airways Corporate Giving program does not preclude an organization from applying for and receiving an Education Foundation grant. The number of grant applications funded is contingent upon US Airways Education Foundation, Inc. fundraising efforts in the prior year and the quality of applicants.
